What is Pine Creek Capital Management?

My name is Brian, and Pine Creek Capital Management is the name of my hedge fund. I started this fund in 2026 after investing privately for more than a decade while building a diverse career across finance and later as an operator at a tech company.

I always thought that I would be a career investment banker. And I would be lying if I told you I didn’t miss it from time to time. I got a seat at the table working with some of the smartest people in the world, whether those were fellow bankers or managers of multi-billion dollar companies. As an investment banker, you also gain privileged access to a wealth of information about companies that is not publicly available.

It was intoxicating. And, as always, there’s a catch.

You can’t do anything with that information. After all, that would be insider trading. In fact, when you join an investment bank, you can’t do much of anything with your money at all. Because you have such vast access to such sensitive information, you are pretty much locked in to passive index investing. Any trades you do make are heavily scrutinized. And why the hell are you trading anyways, there’s work to do.

This was the biggest downside to a career in investment banking in my opinion. Not the 80-100 hour work weeks, not the immense pressure and responsibility of working on deals and numbers that will wind up in every financial news publication. You get used to all that in about 6 months.

I just couldn’t stop thinking about investing.

I ended up leaving investment banking with the long-term goal of starting my own hedge fund. And after a four year stint working up the corporate ladder at a local tech company, I was finally ready to strike out on my own as an entrepreneur, and Pine Creek Capital Management was born.

The fund has been active since early 2026, and we are growing our public presence which includes this Substack. Here you’ll find free weekly market commentary published on Sundays.
